From Procrastination to Productivity: How Katie Found Her Writing Rhythm
We all know that feeling. You sit down to write an email, a blog post, or a social media update for your business, and suddenly, you find yourself alphabetising your bookshelf or deep-diving into emails that definitely didn’t need an immediate reply.
For many small business owners, writing isn’t just a chore—it’s a massive barrier to growth.
I recently caught up with one of my Founding Members, Katie Mitchell of Moments by Katie Mitchell Photography, to hear how she’s been getting on inside The Business Writing Hub. Like so many of us, Katie’s biggest struggle wasn’t a lack of ideas; it was the sheer friction of getting started.
“Getting on with writing content for my business is one of the biggest things I’d always procrastinate on,” Katie shares. “I didn’t… which is part of the problem! Or if I did, I struggled to get on with it”.
Meet The Expert
Moments by Katie Mitchell Photography, founded by Katie Mitchell, captures authentic, heartfelt images that tell a story beyond the lens. Based on a commitment to documenting real life as it unfolds, her business focuses on creating lasting memories for clients through professional, high-quality family photography. Her studio approach is built on trust and a deep understanding of the need for comfort, ensuring that every session feels relaxed and natural. By prioritising genuine interactions, Katie helps clients feel at ease, allowing their true personalities to shine through in every photograph. Through a blend of technical skill and a passion for people, Katie provides a bespoke service that turns fleeting moments into cherished keepsakes. Whether capturing intimate family photos or professional milestones, her work consistently reflects a dedication to excellence and a personal, attentive experience for every client.

Breaking the Cycle of Procrastination
Katie’s experience is incredibly common, especially for those of us whose brains don’t thrive on rigid self-imposed deadlines. For Katie, who lives with ADHD, the standard advice to “just schedule it in” simply didn’t work.
“Diarising it by myself has never worked,” she explains. “The co-working has really helped me to show up for myself and my business”.
By moving from trying to do it all alone to joining our weekly co-working sessions, writing has shifted from a source of stress to a natural part of her weekly routine. The result? She’s finally breaking through that block and getting things done. Her biggest win since joining? “Several batches of content completed”.
Why The Business Writing Hub Works
When I asked Katie what she would tell a friend who was considering joining the Hub, she highlighted two key pillars of the community: motivation and support.
- Weekly Co-working & Live Editing: Katie identifies these as the most valuable parts of her membership. It’s the “body doubling” effect; having a dedicated space and time to focus means the work actually happens.
- Expert Support: Whether it’s having a sounding board for ideas or getting feedback in the WhatsApp group, having that expert guidance on hand makes a world of difference. As Katie noted, the response time in the group is “excellent”.
Join Us and Find Your Flow
Katie’s journey is a powerful reminder that you don’t need to be a “natural writer” to create great content for your business. You just need the right environment and a little bit of support to stop the procrastination and start the flow.
If you’re tired of letting your content plans gather dust, I’d love to welcome you into the Hub.
